Back in 2020, Netflix debuted its live-action adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic series Locke & Key, following the exploits of the Locke family as they return to their ancestral home of Matheson, Massachusetts (Lovecraft, Maine in the comics) after their father, Randall Locke, is brutally murdered.
The series took some liberties with the original comics, and shortly after its debut, was renewed for a second season. Now, Netflix has revealed that that next season will debut in October.
The series follows the Lockes as they explore their family’s ancient, gothic mansion, uncovering a treasure-trove of hidden secrets: keys that impart anyone who uses them with special powers. Those powers range from being able to enter someone’s mind, to duplicating someone, starting fires, and more.
While exploring, one of the family’s three children, Bode, accidentally unleashes a dark presence that has been trapped on the estate, something that’s trying to capture as many of the keys as possible for its own, sinister purposes.
The series scored a renewal just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the season spent most of last fall in production, only wrapping up earlier this spring. In December, Netflix renewed the series for a third season, production of which began back in May.

Now, we know when Season 2 will hit—sometime in October. Netflix has been holding a “GeekedWeek,” and the show’s cast promises that there will be more keys and mysteries to explore in the upcoming episodes.
While we didn’t get a trailer for the season, we did get some first images from it:
